Chanel and Her World – 1979 PDF Free Download

Chanel and Her World Paperback – 1979
Author: Visit ‘s Edmonde Charles-Roux Page ID: 0865650241

From Publishers Weekly

If style never goes out of fashion, then a biography of Coco Chanel shouldn’t either. First published 25 years ago and out of print for the last decade, Charles-Roux’s book was originally all black and white, but large color photos and illustrations have been added for this reissue, and the layout has been redesigned as well. (The text remains the same.) As a former editor-in-chief of French Vogue for 12 years and a longtime friend of Chanel, Charles-Roux collected a lot of photos of the fashion icon and of those allowed into her inner circle. She shares many of them in this massive biography, which follows Chanel’s journey from her birth on August 20, 1883, to her days as a shop girl in Moulins to her triumph in, and transformation of, the fashion world. The book also provides insight into how Chanel’s style developed and how its evolution was related to her defiance of the social conventions of her time; Coco was a great friend of the Cubists and she shared many of their avante-garde tastes. Charles-Roux’s analysis may occasionally have more style than substance, but this balance would hardly have bothered Chanel, for whom style was always everything. And with a Chanel exhibition coming up at the Metropolitan Museum in May, 2005, it seems unlikely that this book will every be out of print for so long again.

This is a substantial book in both size and pictorial content.

As an ideal complement to the Metropolitan Museum’s Chanel exhibit last spring (2005), this book actually exceeds – and outlasts – the exhibit itself.

More than just an intelligent, fascinating woman, Chanel was a fascinating opportunist in the way that she manipulated and transformed the trends of her times (and many men of her times), turning them to her advantage. She was as much a businesswoman and social and cultural politician as a fashion designer, and to see her in this book’s big, beautiful photographs, modeling her own creations, is an inspiration to any woman who disbelieves that humble beginnings and a less than conventionally perfect countenance can lead to high achievement.

The best photograph of all – the photograph that tells all – graces the book’s cover: one look at that face of intelligence, intensity, self-composure, and elegance, and one knows what the book is all about (philosophically as well as biographically) even before opening it.

The classic Chanel endures as a legend and lesson in the achievement of authentic beauty, i.e., defined by compelling creation rather than passive, taken-for-granted standards of acceptance.

I was looking for a book showing photos of Chanel’s clothing designs and styles. This book focuses more on her life and the celebrities and cultural/social trends of her era (spanning 1910’s – 1950’s), so if you are looking to see her clothing styles and designs, you will be disappointed as there isn’t that much coverage of the actual clothing. However, it is a very absorbing, encyclopedic, pictorial collection of the people of Chanel’s time and you can spend many a lazy Sunday afternoon thoroughly exploring les temps perdus. There are many many pictures of Coco Chanel – like Madonna, she looks different every few years, a real chameleon. It retails at $65, so the $37 price is a good deal. It is a heavy thick book with glossy pages.

Visually pleIDg and well-written, here is a book that would surely please Mademoiselle Chanel if she were still with us.

Fans of Chanel and "Fashionistas" alike will undoubtedly be delighted with this big, beautiful book and its vast number of Chanel photos, which document Coco’s personal world of fashion.

Bloody Lies Epub Download

Bloody Lies: A CSI Scandal in the Heartland (Black Squirrel Booksy) Audible – Unabridged ridged
Author: John Ferak ID: B012CBL3NM

The remote farming community of Murdock, Nebraska, seemed to be the least likely setting for one of the heartland’s most ruthless and bloody double murders in decades. In fact the little town had gone more than a century without a single homicide. But on the night of Easter 2006, Wayne and Sharmon Stock were brutally murdered in their home. The murders garnered sensational front-page headlines and drew immediate statewide attention. Practically everybody around Murdock was filled with fear, panic, and outrage. Who killed Wayne and Sharmon Stock? What was the motive? The Stocks were the essence of Nebraska’s all-American farm family – self-made, God-fearing, and of high moral character. Barely a week into this double murder investigation, two arrests brought a sense of relief to the victims’ family and to local residents. The case appeared to fall neatly into place when a tiny speck of murder victim Wayne Stock’s blood appeared in the alleged getaway car. Then an obscure clue left at the crime scene took the investigation down a totally different path, stretching into Iowa, Louisiana, New York, Texas, and Wisconsin. By the time this investigation was over, the charges against the original suspects were dismissed, and two new individuals emerged from the shadows. Over the next few years, the astonishing bloody lies were revealed, culminating in a law enforcement scandal that turned the case on its head and destroyed the career of Nebraska’s celebrated CSI director, David Kofoed. The book is published by The Kent State University Press.

What a tragedy for everyone. First and foremost, the Stock children and grandchildren, who lost the patriarch and matriarch of their family. Matt Livers and Nick Sampson, who were the victims of an overzealous police department and an unethical CSI. I hope both of them are doing well. While I have no sympathy for Jessica Reid and Gregory Fester, they threw their lives away because of their poor choices, which is sad. As far as David Kofoed, he lost his career, custody of his daughter, and left every case he ever worked on open to scrutiny, all because he wanted to be a hero. Worse, he was willing to say nothing while two innocent men went to prison or the electric chair, which is unforgivable.

Author John Ferak has done a magnificent job of cataloging the greatest failures in the history of Nebraska Law Enforcement when inexperienced and inept local deputies joined forces with arrogant and still-employed Nebraska State Patrol Investigators and a corrupt CSI leader to ruin the lives of 2 men. Ferak exposes this pathetic collection of public servants in shocking detail, and in a manner that leaves the reader with no doubt about what those sworn to uphold the constitution are capable of when their incompetence, pride, arrogance and desire for fame are placed above the public trust. The tax paying residents of eastern Nebraska had no idea the leader of their CSI team was a sociopath desiring fame above all else, until now. After reading this you’ll never want to talk to law enforcement in an official capacity ever again without a lawyer. Nor should you.

Fantastic true crime story. I didn’t want to put it down. The character’s were riveting and just about every person had to make decisions that would impact on others. Some made terrible choices, even though the facts kept hitting them squarely on the forehead. Others saw through the charade and courageously confronted the truth. The author really confronts all of us in his "acknowledgement" when he first learned the motto "Tell the truth and don’t be afraid." Unfortunately, for most people that truly is a hard thing to do! A must read for police, attorneys, judges, CIS employees, and just about everyone else 18 & up!

These notebooks are great! They are beautiful and so well made. With 3 different cover designs, the cover material is somewhat textured and the "Notebook" font on the front is lightly embossed printed in gold ink. The inside cover is also printed in gold ink with a lovely pattern. O the inside it has lined pages with gold print. These are almost too beautiful to write in! They would make great gifts!

I bought these on a whim and I love them. They are so pretty! I started the first one as a diary and I write in it all the time. The paper is good quality and it tears out nicely, which is convenient. Love them!!

Everything about this journal is great. Nice size, smooth paper that doesn’t bleed.
Bonus points for presentation and it fits in my purse.

after 22 years of biophysics research and on the ground support/ activism in electrosensitization, now coming on at tidal wave force as the public denial about the toxifying effects of wireless communication radiation shatters and the coverup unravels…I have found no more useful, thorough and timely publication in this field than Katie Singer’s release of "Electronic Silent Spring"

This is a subject area which is so diverse and panoramic, it would swamp or sandbag the amateur writer leaving readers overwhelmed in instants. It is to this lady’s steep credit as a medical journalist deeply experienced in the toxicology and sensitization effects of the invisible hazards of the wireless age that she’s managed to almost…almost cover the whole gamut, slighting little and with the finesse that leaves both the novice recently coming into the field and the professional alike…impresssed, informed, up to speed and referenced. Good going girl…this is what we’ve needed. There isn’t a shelf it shouldn’t be on. (For those of you who might think this is a plant…I don’t know Katie Singer from Adam).

The Chinese and Thomas Edison were right. AC will fry you…and the first metabolism of effect is the meridians known in acupuncture and accupressure…perhaps additions to later works, but even in the field itself, this is only recently coming to light. Out of everything and everyone I’ve encountered in the two decade venture…myself a severely sensitized, once nearly dead, completely uninformed Electro Sensitive…Katie has gone straight to the head of a very difficult pile to climb…the list I keep of the major contributors in this field. Even if you didn’t understand it, I’d insist that you read this book…the beauty of her journalistic skill and humanism is…
This is definitely in the 3-star category–the good and the bad and just about equally balanced. On the bright side, there are a lot of first-person stories which do a great deal to illuminate the problem and the reality of the afflictions from unbridled proliferation of EMF. There are also good presentations clearly showing the government actions and non-actions for what they are: incompetence at best, but venal corruption being the more likely explanation. The book also has a great title which captures the concerns perfectly.

As a scientist myself, I can say that it may be a hallmark of mainstream science to deny anything that’s not written about in your textbooks, but that is not true science–that is closed-minded bullheadedness. A bona fide scientist has to be open to ideas that are either not in the textbooks, or even conflict with them! In fact, that trait is basically what distinguishes a scientist from a PR hack. That has been the pivotal issue with EMF and EHS, and Singer brings the message out kind of, but not well focused as she might.

Now here, unfortunately, while Singer’s heart is in the right place, she can’t help the reader with understanding the technical concepts since she does not understand them herself. Surely an explanation of exactly what is power density, what is SAR, and the relation between the two should be a pivotal chapter in such a book, but this is not addressed at all. She even gets wrong the basics of commercial technology, which would require reading trade magazines but does not require a physics background. She has an alarmist section about the dangers lurking in internet-over-powerlines, without realizing that this was an industry trial balloon that fell flat on its face, for feasibility reasons.
